Brenda Cortez Deverell is a highly skilled software engineer with over 11 years of experience in the field. Currently, she works at Attune Insurance as a Software Engineer on the Digital Carriers team, where she is responsible for integrating new insurance products into the web platform. Prior to this, she was a founding engineering member at Koneksa Health, where she worked on various projects that touched the full stack spectrum of the Koneksa Compare applications. Brenda's educational background includes a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rutgers University, where she studied Robotics and Electrical and Computer Engineering. She is well-versed in various programming languages and tech stacks, including software engineering, product management, web, and backend development. Brenda is passionate about increasing the number of women in the field of technology, and she believes in inspiring women of all ages, especially young girls, to pursue their interests in STEM fields. Her passion led her to become a programming instructor for college students, and she later joined the Women Who Code NYC network as a member and soon after as a Director. Brenda's previous experience includes working as a Systems Administrator at a Financial Services company, where she provided backend systems support and application support. She used tools such as VMWare, AD, MS Servers 20*, and other utilities. Additionally, she automated scripts by programming them in MS batch and maintained scripts written in Bash, Perl, and C#. Brenda was born in Mexico and raised in New Jersey. She was first introduced to programming as a junior in college, but she didn't pursue her interest in the field until the summer of 2014 when she decided to teach herself web programming to switch to a new career field. She currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, two children, and two cats.
